V/A - 018/Tio Grupper LP (Sweden, 1980)

Here is a nice compilation LP of Uppsala bands. It starts off with 2 good punky tracks from The Stain who also did a 7" in 1981 and then tracks from the N-Liners and Rune Strutz who both released 7"s in 1978. The 7" tracks are more punk than what you find on this LP though. Rävjunk also released an LP and several 7"s which are all worth hearing. I'm not familiar with any of the other groups.

V/A - 018/Tio Grupper LP (Svenska Love SLLP 07, 1980)
The Stain - Vill inte
The Stain - Den tysta verkligheten
N-Liners - Återfall i farten

V/A - KBD 50 and 51 LPs (Sweden)

This post contains all Swedish punk and no American junk!

These 2 LPs came out in 2003 (at least that's the date on the back of the covers). According to the note on the back of the sleeves: "Out now, KBD 50 and 51, two fine new volumes containing obscure punk rock from the first years of punk in Sweden. This is not meant to be some kind of "Best of Swedish punk" comp, this is just some of the rarest shit I could dig up from my record collection. I hope there will be some new stuff for everybody. By the way, none of the appearing records were pressed in a quantity larger than 500 (one exception OK)".

Many of the records on these compilations have been posted previously here or at Killed By Death Records.

V/A - Killed By Death #50 LP
Jonström - P3 (1979)
Quizz Kidz - Tomorrow (1980)
Morgan - I Want More (1980)
High Voltage - I'm  A Fool (1978) [from V/A - Ljud Från Friberga LP]
Desperate Livin' - Gevär (1981)
Oss - Falska rykten (1980)
Tre Man Stark - Ensam (1982)
Cyklon B - Kris (1979)
Rock Set - Piteå kommun (1979)
Hangover - Sick Society (1978)
Kramp - Disciplin (1982)
Tripple Cripple - Born To Fuck (1981)
Pinheads - Säga ett (1981)
The End - Snutjävlar (1979) [says 1980 on the label]

V/A - Killed By Death #51 LP
Venerias - Monarki (1978)
DT & The Stoodes - Lev (1981)
Shit Kids - Frösö sjukhus 1984 (1979)
Zeppo & The Zepp-Zepps - Ode To Johnny Rotten (1978)
WBT - Hem från storan (1980)
Quiet Men - Mongoloid (1979)
Bizex-B - En våldtäkt i vinyl (1983)
Reklamation - (Trivs du i) Hjo? (1980)
Vanvett - Kurts Klagoord (1981) [from V/A - Åminne Punkfiesta LP]
Forssell - Punk-Plonk (1980)
Brigad 45 B - Nazismen (1980)
Bakrus - Lämrock (1980)
Arsenik - Bad Girl (1980)
ABC 80 - Pop i radion (1980)

It's a shame that the other song from the Venerias 7" was not included. With supposedly only 4 copies made, it isn't something that anyone will be finding very often. I would really like to hear the other song since it is claimed in the notes with the LP that it is better than the one we did get to hear. Has anyone other than the person who did the LP actually seen the record or heard the other song?

Obscure Canada - Vol. 1

Recently I've been recording a bunch of Canadian records for someone. What you get here are some lesser known songs all taken from 7"s. Some have appeared in the past on eBay under the guise of "megarare KBD punk/powerpop". Keeping in mind that "KBD" and "powerpop" are among the most overused (and abused) terms (next to "rare" and "mint") on eBay I'll leave it up to you to decide whether these are worth searching for.

Androids - Roller Derby Queen (1979) From Toronto.
Roland Blinn & The Fishermen - Tense (198?) From Halifax. Not sure of the year but maybe early 80s. It is on the Nerve label, same as the excellent Phollop Willing P.A. 7". Also released an LP called "Rosebud" in 1989.
Blue Oil - Money (1982) All girl band from Montreal. See them do "Sardine City":

Buddy King & The Motion - Schoolgirl Alibis (1981) From Vancouver.
Cutz - Nuclear Hall Of Fame (1981) From Calgary. Same label as Verdix and Plan 9.
Dundas - Bloodshot In Your Eyes (1979) From around Hamilton? Same label as The Innocent and Tyro EPs.
Edsells - Don't Wanna Go To School (1981) From Vancouver.
Gas - Special This Week (1979) From Toronto area.
T.H.E. Hab - You Make Me Glow (early 80's?) No idea where this is from.
Idols - Reajean (1980). From Saskatoon. Members later formed the Northern Pikes.
Mix - Break Up Shake Up (1985) From Nanaimo. Has been known to sell for high prices.
Mr. Science - Popeshat (1990) From Toronto.
Paperboys - Looking For Sharon (1981) From Toronto?
Pelicans - New Wave (1979) From Brantford, Ontario.
Psychotic Pineapples - Stranded (1980s) From Kingston.
Suspects - Raining Over France (1979) From Toronto. Became The Deserters who released a couple of LPs.
Tickets - It Don't Matter (1980) From Calgary. Taken from a 4 song EP called "Extended Play".
Uranus - I'm Wonderful (1978?) From London. This is from an EP released prior to their "You're So Square" LP.
Zipper - Another Boyfriend (1980?) From Victoria.

Curtains (Canada, 1981)

Staying in Canada here's an EP from the Curtains who were from Ottawa. This was their only release as far as I know. It was distributed by Mannequin Records from Burlington, Ontario, who also released records by Kinetic Ideals, The Filters, Ceramic Hello, etc.

Curtains - Twist'n Up The Beach // Your Garden / Kari-Anne EP (CSA / Mannequin MAN004, 1981)

222s (Canada, 1979-1981)

By request, and since I happen to have them at hand, here are the songs from both 7"s from this Montreal, Canada band. There is some info about them on Wikipedia and a bunch of videos on YouTube. Start with these:

The song "Hold Up", from a 1978 demo, appeared on the Only In Canada, Eh 77-81 Volume 1 CD compilation (Punk History Canada, PHC CD 0101). There was also a CD release called Montreal Punk - 78-81 (Sonik's Chicken Shrimp, SCS006) released in 2006. It has 8 demo tracks from 1979, 1 each from 1980 and 1981, several live songs and 4 bonus video tracks. It is well worth getting as is the Only In Canada, Eh CD.

222s - I Love Susan / The First Studio Bomb 7" (Rebel RB-7901, 1979)
222s - La poupée qui fait non / La poupée qui fait non (instrumental) 7" (Gamma AA-1703, 1981)

Culture Shock (Canada, 1983 - 1984)

From Vancouver, here's a nice little punky powerpop 7" that pops up on eBay every so often. It usually ends up selling in the $300-400 range. Only 300 made. There are 2 different sleeve variations.

I've also included the song "Stay Away" from the Undergrowth '84 cassette compilation of various Vancouver bands.

1977 Records in Japan has also released a CD compilation of studio and live material.

Culture Shock - Forever & Ever / Thought You Were A Friend 7" (JM-8352, 1983)
Culture Shock - Stay Away [from V/A - Undergrowth '84 cassette (1984)]

Modern Minds (Canada, 1980)

An updated version of this post can be found here.

The Modern Minds EP has already been posted at the Sing Sing Blog and there is a CD with 11 songs available from Record Shop Base in Japan. I highly recommend this CD and while you're getting it you should also get the TNT (Switzerland) CD at the same time.

What you get here are several songs from a live radio broadcast of a Modern Minds show. I don't know the exact date but it was just after the release of the EP. Included are Modernettes and Pointed Sticks covers, 2 songs from the EP and 2 others. The original taped recording that these songs come from was quite noisy and there were reception problems during the Pointed Sticks song. However, we should be thankful that someone recorded this back when it was broadcast since there are some great songs included that are not available anywhere else.

In 2007 a set of 4 cassettes appeared in an edition of 100 copies. The intention was to feature punk, powerpop and punk/metal tracks that were not already included on a KBD or Powerpearls style compilation. Each side of each cassette had a different name so the series consisted of KBD #96, #97, #98, and #99, Powerpearls #12, #13 and #14, and Breaking The Rules #10. Most tracks were taken from 7"s although some were from LPs and original cassettes. You can find more info and sleeve scans for most of the original records at Musikon.

Fresh Color 12" EP (Switzerland, 1979)

By request here is the Fresh Color 12" EP from 1979. This one is quite difficult to find although it was just on eBay as a "Buy It Now" for $225. It didn't sell so you may still have a chance if you really want it. The description called it "their best release". Probably the seller wasn't familiar with their 1st 7". There is no comparison between the version of "No Chance" on this EP and the 7" version. Other than this EP and the first 2 7"s I don't have any of their other records. Check Discogs for more on their later releases.

Fresh Color - Dance Around / Punkpartout // City Girl / No Chance / Mini-Car 12" EP (Stick FC 01279, 1979)

It is now available on CD.

Extaz EP (Sweden, 1984)

This time we have an obscure Swedish EP from 1984 that I don't know much about. No info on the back of the sleeve except for the band members and the record just has plain white labels.

It's decent pop-punk that sounds more typical of a lot of bands from several years before.

Morgan 7" (Sweden, 1980)

The B side of the Morgan 7" was included on the Killed By Death #50 LP of Swedish rarities. From the LP notes: "Morgan was the bass player of Jonström and also the producer of the first two Rude Kids singles ... even though hardly anyone noticed the record back then it managed to get banned from the radio because of the lyrics of "I Want More"". Sorry, not being fluent in Swedish I can't tell you what the offensive lyrics might be.

Armchairs vs Flying Calvittos (Australia, 1979)

For a little change of pace here are 2 Australian EPs from 1979 that you probably don't see around too often.

First up are The Armchairs, co-founded by Ian Stephen and Johnny Topper. They released the Ski-Lo-Lo EP (1979) and Party Time LP (1982). The back of the EP sleeve is written entirely in French for whatever reason. There are also brief audio clips before and after each song on the EP. There is also some cool Armchairs stuff on YouTube such as:

The Flying Calvittos 'Goodbye You Spaghetti Punks' EP has one punky novelty in "Squeal Like A Pig" and some other interesting tunes. It has sold for decent prices on eBay in the past (see the auction results and pictures here). There was a CD release called 26 Hundred Moons (Calvitto Music CALD-01, 1996) that includes the EP and other songs recorded in 1987 and 1994. There were 500 numbered copies so it is probably tough to find now. If you like the EP then you may like the material on the CD though none of it is close to the genius(?) of "Squeal Like A Pig". The credits notes in the CD booklet also mention a 7" called "When You Start" released in 1988 that I have never seen mention of anywhere else.

Armchairs - Ski-Lo-Lo EP (Dining Room / Brian Henderson // Cat In The Box / Elvis Presley) (Reverse RR002, 1979)
Flying Calvittos - Goodbye You Spaghetti Punks EP (Mamma's Recipe Feeds The People / Mamma's Table // Squeal Like A Pig / Fastnet / Lucky To Be Australian) (Groove PRS2728, 1979)

Swiss Vinyl Feast #7

It's back to Switzerland for some punk rock and weirdness. This time we have a 7", a 10", a 12" and an LP.

Bayer played drums in Mother's Ruin and also, I was told, the Rebels but I'm not sure about that. His solo 7" is perhaps a little on the weird side for most tastes, especially the version of 'Yellow Submarine'. It came in an oversize 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch sleeve that was sometimes also used as a mailer for sending the record.

Besides 3 great 7"s TNT also released the Eine kleine Machtmusik 10" in 1983 (1000 numbered copies).

Jof & The Ram released only this 12" EP in 1981 that sometimes shows up on discographies and sale lists as "punk". The cover came covered in plastic bubble wrap.

Debils released just this one LP in 1981. Three of the songs (Maso / Crisis / Made In Switzerland) were included on the V/A - Made In Switzerland LP along with songs from NDT, Crash Course, Vorwärts and Bellevue (all songs previously released 1981 - 83).

Bayer - Ask Noback If You Won't Get Back / Yellow Submarine 7" (Bayer 1, 1982)

TNT - Eine kleine Machtmusik 10" (Movie Billy / Train / Empty Sound / Clowns / Bubble Guns // Popstars / Bank Rubber (Punk Robber) / Krokodil / Splash) (Off Course ASL-3308, 1983)

Jof & The Ram - Vie Belle / Berufsverbot // 3° Guerre / Aux Chiottes 12" (General Mix-Up 01, 1981)

Debils - s/t LP (Intro / Debils / Crisis / Made In Switzerland / Prisonnier / Troupe // Maso / Apache / The Baston / Le Pendu / Crisis II) (Teva 00400-P, 1981)

Exits - Yodelling EP (UK, 1978)

One of the rarer and more sought after UK punk records is the Exits "Yodelling" EP from 1978. There were 500 numbered copies. Two tracks appeared on the Teenage Treats compilation LPs (Apathy on Vol. 3 and Glandular Angela on Vol. 5). The sleeve image is from the excellent ModPopPunk Archives site.

Tripple Cripple / Tuppjukk (Sweden, 1981)

Today's post from Sweden is brought to you by the letter 'T'. Both of these records have sold on eBay for $200+ so maybe they are worth a listen?

Tripple Cripple did only the 'Rensar Stan' EP and a track on the Svenska Tonårsgrupper Vol. 3 LP that was posted previously. That one sold on eBay not so long ago for $100+. 'Born To Fuck' from the EP was included on the Killed By Death #50 LP. 'Baby I Don't Mind' was on Powerpearls Vol. 10 and the photo on the cover of the 7" was used on the front cover of the LP.

Tuppjukk released only this 7", the first on the EFMD label that also had 7"s from GPJ, Dom Vässade, ABKK, Phase Nine and Tolstoys Toy. The A side was on Killed By Death #666.

Tripple Cripple - Rensar Stan EP (Funbo City Rockers / High Heels'n Leather / Pengarna eller trosorna! // Born To Fuck / Baby I Don't Mind / Adjö) (Quasimodo 0001-S, 1981)

I've never really spent much time looking around You Tube but today I came across some video of some old Swiss bands. Most of you have probably seen these already but in case you haven't, check them out. These should lead you to lots more.

Swiss Vinyl Feast #5

This will be the last bunch of Swiss things for a little while. There will be more to come later after some other requests are done.

Sozz - Patrol Car / Lurch Gang 7" (Farmer P-117, 1979)
Sozz - Law and Order / All The Cops In The Street 7" (Farmer P117-2, 1980)
Sperma - Züri Punx / Bombs 7" (Another Swiss Label ASL 1, 1979)
Sperma - Love Love / Everything I Do Is Wrong 7" (Another Swiss Label ASL 7, 1980)
Sperma - Sinnlos / [Züri Punx] 7" (Another Swiss Label ASL 8, 1980)
Sperma - Schmier / No More Love / Radio 12" EP (Another Swiss Label ASL 2, 1979)
TNT - Züri brännt / 131 / Subwayscene EP (Vox Pop 3007, 1979)
TNT - I Remember 77 / Fight 7" (Off Course FFC 8008, 1980)
TNT - Razzia / They Robbed Us 7" (Disctrade P117, 1981)

For sleeve scans see: Punk-Disco

Sozz released just these 2 7"s. Sperma had these 3 7"s and the 12". The b side of the "Sinnlos" 7" is Züri Punx, same as the 1st 7". Besides these 3 7"s TNT also released a 10" EP in 1983 that I may post later. There was also a bootleg issue of all 3 7"s on a 7" EP.

NOTE: There is a CD with all the TNT 7" tracks plus 2 bonus tracks from Record Shop Base in Japan. Yeah, I know CD's suck and blah, blah, blah but I like to see reissues of good old punk in whatever format. If someone wants to look into releasing this on a 12" then please do. I would certainly buy one.

Hog (Sweden, 1979/1980)

Another request this time. Hog released their first LP in 1979 and quickly followed with another in 1980. That's all I know about. I've been asked by several people what they sound like, now you can hear for yourself. I wouldn't call them punk but I do like them. Good garage rock with some 60's influences, pleasant listening overall. I suppose it is sort of strange that a Swedish band would release 2 LPs of songs in English. Maybe they were looking for some international exposure?

Hog - A Shot Of A Lot LP (Däcka SYD-001, 1979)
(Unconscious / Thoughts / The Last Trip / Can't Get Enough / Clock On The Wall / To The Other Side // Right In Time / When I Got You / No Return / Tea-Time / Rain)

Hog - Off The Record LP (Däcka SYD-002, 1980)
(Livin' Fast / All For You / Not Tonight / Tomorrow's Yesterday / Up And Down / Asylum, Please // Feels So Right / Ridin' High / Strange Condition / Pretty Face / Tranqualiez-lie / Hit Your Brain)

Desperate Livin' (Sweden, 1981)

Back to Sweden for a tasty punk treat by Desperate Livin' from 1981. Songs from this EP have appeared on the Break The Rules #7 and Killed By Death #50 compilation LPs. According to the BTR #7 LP, 300 copies of the EP were pressed but around 100 of them got badly warped and were thrown away. Needless to say, this one doesn't turn up very much these days. There is also mention of a tape with 6 songs that are similar to those on the EP. Anyone have it?

Desperate Livin' - Stilla natt / Skär i mig / Gevär / No Way Out … EP (Desperate CTR 1081, 1981)

Swiss Vinyl Feast #4

Here's another batch of Swiss punk while I work on getting some more Swedish records ripped and ready for posting.

MD (Manisch Depressiv) - Gott ist tot / Würde Würde Würde sein / Aber wir wissen / Aufstehn / Was ist los mit Amerika / Zeitmaschine (1+2) / Existieren sie nicht / Es gibt sie nicht / Die Maschine / Gott ist tot EP (Soilant, 1983)
Mono - Bahnhof / Schtop / Life EP (Monokel 001, 1981)
Mother's Ruin - Godzilla / Plastic / Cannibals / Can´t Wait 12" EP (Off Course FFC 7906, 1979)
Negativ - Glitter Hair Cream / Terrorist 7" (Turicaphone, 1982)
Nilp - Gift / Wuet / Patriote / Schaffe EP (-, 1982)
Rebels - Mayday / Mental Disaster / Sweet Society EP (Musk MP 7777/8, 1979)

For sleeve scans see: Punk-Disco

The MD EP originally came in a spraypainted cardboard cover (I was lucky enough to find 2 of them in Zurich about 15 years ago). More recently, a number of copies came out in just a spraypainted plain white sleeve. The Soilant label released some other cool punk/noise/DIY records as well. Mono also released an LP in 1982 that I'll maybe post later. Mother's Ruin did some other records but none as good as this 12" I don't think. There is another EP from Nilp that I don't have but would really like to find! Negativ and Rebels had only these releases which were compiled on the Pogo Punks LP back around 1997.

Swiss Vinyl Feast #3

Since the first 2 bunches of Swiss goodies seem to be popular, let's continue on with another one.
Today we have for your enjoyment:
Chaos // The Sick - Day Doult / Get Out Of My Pocket // Never Too Late / Switzerland 12" (Off Course FFC 7904/5, 1979)
Crash Course - Wanna Be Like You / Partisans // Break Down The Walls / Television EP (-, 1982)
Crazy - Weisst du noch / Dany // Beton / Freiheit im Rechtsstaat 12" (-, 1981)
Discolokosst - Introduction / Rock ist Rock / C'est pas assez (from V/A - Palladium LP, 1981)
Glueams - Strassen / SS 7" (Punk Rules Clan 001, 1979)
Jack & The Rippers - No Desire / I Feel Like A Tram 7" (Another Swiss Label ASL 4, 1979)

For sleeve scans see: Punk-Disco

Chaos were from Austria and didn't release anything else I'm aware of. The Sick also had no other vinyl releases. There is an LP called Switzerland Off Course In 1979 (Loud, Proud & Punk Records 008, 1998) that has all the 12" tracks as well as unreleased and live recordings from both bands. Crash Course only released this one EP. Crazy also did a great LP in 1980. There is also a CD that has the 12", some LP tracks, demos and live songs that came out in 1991. The Discolokosst tracks are from the Palladium compilation LP. They also had tracks on the Collection Privée EP (France, 1983) and Geneve Soif LP (1984). An LP came out in 2007 with material from 1980. It didn't seem to get very much distribution or noticed when it came out, which is too bad. I think they are a good band that deserves to be heard by more people. Glueams had 2 others 7"s besides the one here. This is their first. Jack & The Rippers only released this 7" and 2 songs on the Swiss Wave compilation (1980) back in the day. A second 7" (Don't Pretend / Safe & Secure) was meant to be released in 1980 but that never happened. Many of their songs from that time have since been released on 2 LPs, A Wonderful Piece Of Punk Rock and I Think It's Over. The first 7" was also reissued several years ago and the second one finally appeared on vinyl as well around the same time.

V/A - Powerpearls 1 and 2 LPs

These LPs came out during the late 1990's flood of Killed By Death, Bloodstains, Teenage Treats, etc punk and powerpop compilations. Over the space of a few years there were a total of 10 volumes of the Powerpearls series released. There were so many of these kinds of compilations that there was a book and several websites created just to keep track of them and all the songs that were compiled.

By request I'll be posting the Powerpearls series since they now seem to be getting harder to find. We'll start off with the first 2 volumes.

V/A - Oasen CD (Sweden, 1979/1991)

There have been a couple of requests for this compilation. It was recorded live in 1979 and includes the well-known Ebba Grön and Grisen Skriker as well as some others that probably didn't release any records of their own. Even though I really like Ebba Grön and Grisen Skriker I don't care much for this compilation. I like the Trams tracks but that's about it.

This was first released on LP in 1979 and then reissued in 1986. It was released on CD in 1991. Since I can't find the LP (must have traded or sold it and forgot about it in my old age!), you'll have to make do with the CD. The track "I Wanna Fuck Your Dog" by Ebba Grön is on the LP but it isn't on the CD (Thanks, Martin, for the info!).

V/A - Oasen LP/CD (MNW MNWP/CD 94, 1979/1991)
Ebba Grön - Skjut en snut
Ebba Grön - Brackor
The Lerium - En ny dag
The Lerium - Nu
Boojhwa Kids - Med en duns slutar alla hoppas
Katedral - Orientella pareller
Grisen Skriker - Kärleksjakten
Grisen Skriker - Är jag så dum?
Slakthus Trotyl - Kräv en Oas
Trams - Snutar är nazister
Trams - Tiga käft
Urin - Eva
Urin, Ebba Grön - Utväg
[Ebba Grön - I Wanna Fuck Your Dog] LP only, not on CD

Swiss Vinyl Feast #2

A double dose of Swiss cheese and chocolate for you today!
In this package we have:
Jack Rabbit Band - The Sprayer / Kathy / Revenge EP (Musk Project 7777/6, 1980)
Dieter Meier - Cry For Fame / The Hook 7" (Periphery Perfume PP00178, 1978)
Dieter Meier - Jim For Tango / Madman 7" (Periphery Perfume PP00378, 1978)
Schizoids - Randalier / Zerschtör 7" (Schzoid, 1981)
Technycolor - Bunker / Tot 77 7" (Another Swiss Label ASL 3, 1979)
Yodler Killers - La Ravachole (from V/A - Palladium LP, 1981)
Yodler Killers - Jacot Masturbette / Soussölrock 7" (Zaki ZAK 1, 1979)

For sleeve scans see: Punk-Disco

Jack Rabbit Band also released an LP and a 7" that are more pop than the EP. One of the EP tracks I think appeared on some shitty quality later KBD or Bloodstains volume. Schizoids I don't know anything about. Technycolor also released a later EP that is artwave and not punk at all. I've also included the Yodler Killers track from the Palladium compilation LP. Except for them and Discolokosst there isn't much of interest on the LP.

Swiss Vinyl Feast #1

Time to leave Sweden for a little while and feature some punk from the land of cheese and chocolate. This first package of Swiss goodies includes:
Baramine - Sans lendemain / Rock sur l'an 2000 7" (BAM 001, 1981)
Bellevue - Dein Freund / Marchin' Men / Deathwalk EP (-, 1981)
Bellevue
- Soldatenlied / Passport to Boredom 7" (-, 1982)
Peter Berger - My Sex Is Bad / Psychoterror 7" (Musk Project MP7777/7, 1979)
Fresh Color - No Chance / The Source 7" (Periphery Perfume PP00278, 1978)
Fresh Color - Lady Shiva / Glitter Girl 7" (Stick FC 00179, 1979)

For sleeve scans see: Punk-Disco

In 2011 a Bellevue compilation LP was released that is definitely worth picking up.
Fresh Color also released a 12" EP which is OK (not as good as the 1st 7", maybe more like the 2nd) and a bunch of pop/disco things that probably should be avoided.

Arsenik (Sweden, 1980)

Here's a cool EP from a bunch of Swedish kids all around 14 years old. The song "Bad Girl" was included on the KBD #51 LP. This was their only vinyl release but according to the Swedish Punk Encyclopedia they also recorded a couple of demos. If they are as good as the EP then I'd love to hear them!

Arsenik - Bad Girl // Swedish Boy / Vi gör som vi vill EP (Ori ORI 0707S , 1980)

Tapes (Sweden, 1977)

Here's an obscurity from Sweden from 1977. I don't have any info about it and couldn't find much about it. I got it on a tape years ago and I'm not sure if I would really call it punk but it is sort of interesting. Anyone know more about it?

Tapes - Dreamland / Is That You? 7" (GUS 999, 1977)

Dirty Rust / J.R. Band (Sweden, 1981)

Here are a couple of random 7"s from 1981 with a mix of powerpop, reggae, punk and rock.

Dirty Rust - Gnistrande Snö EP ( 4 månader / Dirty Rust a Reggae / Skvaller / I staden) (Stage & Music Production S&M 8103, 1981)
J.R. Band - Separationsångest / Rock'n roll radio / Klockan slog tre EP (Bitrax Ramp BXS 102, 1981)

V/A - Let It Out LP (Sweden, 1980)

Here's a compilation from 1980 that has some great punk and powerpop tracks. You get 2 songs each from The Moderns, Warheads, 2760, Chatterbox and The Stoodes. All of the bands also have other vinyl releases. The Moderns did an EP in 1979 and a 7" in 1980 which are both fantastic powerpop. Both of those records, along with the compilation tracks and 2 unreleased songs were released on CD by 1977 Records in Japan in 2004 but I think it is sold out now. They've just reissued both 7"s so get them before they're gone! Warheads did an EP in 1979 that is worth getting. 2760 also have a 12" EP from 1980 on Adventure Records. If you like the songs here you'll probably like the EP as well. Chatterbox released 2 7"s and LP that I know of but I think their best songs are on this comp. The Stoodes released an LP called "Metallic 'OK" in 1981 that has a couple of good songs and some lo-fi live material of so-so quality. One of the better LP tracks is on the KBD 51 compilation. There is also a Let It Out Vol. II LP from 1981 that is new wave pop/rock.

V/A - Let It Out LP (Adventure Records ADVLP100, 1980)
Side 1
The Moderns - Tell Me Where The Action Is
Warheads - Today Can't Be Worser Than Tomorrow
2760 - Vive le rock
Chatterbox - Sista chansen
The Stoodes - Psycotic
Side 2
2760 - Rocky Buys A Record
Chatterbox - Illusioner
The Moderns - She Said Go!
Warheads - I Lost My Legs In The War
The Stoodes - Gunfight

Chilly Chimes (Sweden, 1975)

I decided to post this one after the post by Punk Business Manager of the excellent Ljud från Friberga LP. There was some discussion of this record in the comments and the feeling was that it sucked. Now you can listen and decide yourself. This 7" and the 2 tracks on Ljud från Friberga are all that they released. They changed their name to Mörbyligan and released a bunch of records from 1978 through 1986.

Chilly Chimes - Join The Army / Let Me Inside 7" (AB02, 1975)

Friday, April 10, 2009

Gyllene Divor (Sweden, 1981)

Time now for a little pop interlude. Here we have a tough to find pop/powerpop EP from Gyllene Divor. I think this was probably their only release.

Gyllene Divor - Ni har ingen tunnelbana / Mucka / Jag är kär i John Travolta EP (Commercial CTR-881, 1981)

Kessler Jugend G.m.b.H. (Sweden, 1983-85)

Here are 2 of the rarer 7"s from Sweden. Legendary and you gotta like their choices in sleeve art and label name!

Kessler Jugend G.m.b.H. - Schoot'zem (On The Spot) / Vistrohajre (For A New Germany) 7" (Golden Shower KJ-1, 1983)
Kessler Jugend G.m.b.H. - Ge fan i moppen hej / Bankrutt på squtt 7" (Golden Shower A-PATI, 1985)

Me want Swedish records!

I have quite a lot but there are still things I haven't heard and had no luck yet in finding (at least for reasonable prices). Help in finding any of the following would be much appreciated! Or at least tell me they are terrible. Contact me at: girlsfromtahiti at gmail dot com.
62 1/2 - Titta hit / Bevare oss 7" (1982)
MATS ANDERSSON BAND - Uniformerade män +3 cassette (1982)
BUGS - Pärleporten +3 cassette (1980)
FEM ÄLGAR - I Ett Badkar EP (1980)
HANGOVER - Hangover / Esplanaden 7" (1978)
HEMLIGT UPPDRAG - Svarta nätter / Född rik 7" (1983)
HOLLYWOOD GIRLZ - EP (1982) [Does this even exist??]
HOROSCOPE - Inte ensam / Det vågade jag inte säga 7" (1981)
HOT NEWS - The Band / Cirkeln 7" (1979)
LONELY HEARTS - Lonely Heart / One More Night 7" (1984)
LUFTGROUP - Pornografi / Det kostar på 7" (1980)

V/A - Åminne Punkfiesta LP (Sweden, 1981)

Here is a very obscure compilation from Värnamo. One of the songs was included on the Killed By Death #51 LP (Kurts klagoord by Vanvett). The LP is damn raer, one of the more collectible Swedish punk records.

None of the bands on the LP ever released anything else that I'm aware of. UPDATE: Thanks to the comment from Martin about Akupunktur having a track on the Först Värnamo Sen Världen compilation LP. I don't have the LP but that track is on the KBD#96 compilation, part of a 4 x cassette set that was released in 2007.

V/A - Åminne Punkfiesta LP (Åminne SKLP 002, 1981)

U.P.A (Sweden, 1982)

This time I decided to post 3 songs from U.P.A, who were from Kristinehamn. These are taken from the Picassos Barn compilation cassette (see below for a link to the complete cassette) and in my opinion are some of the best songs on it. They would have made a nice EP had they ever released a record.

There is also another band from Sweden called U.P.A and they did release a 7" in 1979. It is not punk though, just indie rock. The songs are En gata i Paris / Väntar på en vän (CFR-S-7013, 1979).

For more about punk from Kristinehamn check this page out.

You can find the full Picassos Barn cassette (as well as Vol. 2) and some others here.

Åsa - Battle Of The Bands: Oss vs Shas (Sweden, 1980)

Two bands from the small town of Åsa (not far from Göteborg) both recorded EPs in 1980. Both are quite rare, especially Shas. It didn't sell well and the story is that the band members threw all the unsold ones from a bridge. One of the songs from the Oss EP (Falska Rykten) was included on the Killed By Death #50 compilation of Swedish rarities. I like both of these records, although another band from Åsa (Glo) is perhaps the best from there.

Oss - Falska rykten / Hubba hubba // Vi gör som vi vill / Jag vill vara fri EP (Bandit F 123, 1980)
Shas - Thinner / En idiots dröm // Kommer inte längre / Nojan EP (Iemaj 003, 1981) (label says 1981 though it was recorded in 1980)

V/A - Svenska Tonårsgrupper Vol. 3 LP (Sweden, 1981)

Here's a cool compilation that includes some bands you may have already heard of like Tripple Cripple, Onkel Kånkel and Sarah Coffman. There's also some other interesting things to be found with Vem Fan Är Håkan? and Stalin and The Icepikes among my favorites. I've never seen a Vol. 1 or 2 anywhere so maybe they don't exist? The Sarah Coffman track you can also find on the Vägra Raggarna Benzin Vol. 2 CD along with other great, rare Swedish punk. You should find both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 and buy them now! The Onkel Kånkel track is available as a bonus track on the Gyllene Tider CD (their 1983 LP plus 8 bonus tracks, what more could you want?).

Tripple Cripple released an excellent EP in 1981. Sarah Coffman released a good 7" in 1980, also on the Konkurens label (KONK 001). And Onkel Kånkel's Gyllene Tider LP was Konkurens KONK 003. I don't know of any other vinyl releases by the bands on this LP.

V/A - Svenska Tonårsgrupper Vol. 3 LP (Konkurens KONK 002, 1981)
Side 1
Mesk - Jag är ett problem
Tripple Cripple - Ung & grymm
Rövita Kon Anfaller - Spänd
