De Kuffers (Holland, 1977)

Dutch punk novelty from 1977 on Safety Pin (punk, eh?) records. Ik Wil Punk! = I Want Punk! Who doesn't?

De Kuffers - Ik Wil Punk! / De Drugwals 7" (Safety Pin ELF 65.129, 1977)

Kraft Durch Freude (Switzerland, 1979)

This one has been requested several times so I thought I would try and get it posted before the world ends this Saturday. I really hope their calculations are off because I'm getting a new sofa and TV this Saturday afternoon and I have a hot date Saturday night. Anyway, KDF were a 3 piece punk/powerpop band from Zürich that released this 12" and also a 7" which you can listen to here.

P.F. Commando - Jag En Duva LP (Sweden, 1980)

Formed  in 1978 P.F. Commando would release 2 7" EPs and 2 LPs over the next 2 years. Here you have the second LP, of which 2000 were pressed and 1500 supposedly thrown in the junk due to poor sales. You can find their amazing first 7" EP here, the classic first LP (Manipulerade Mongon) here and the "In A Pose" (unreleased 1979) LP here. The "Rough Sound" EP doesn't seem to be available though, at least not that I could find.

Tension (USA/Canada, 1985)

This one has been posted elsewhere before but I thought I would include it anyway. Most hardcore records bore me but I don't mind this one. 3 members from Buffalo and one from St. Catharines.

Tension - Pericolo di Morte EP (Death Of A Nation / Mr. America / Recruits // Preserved / Put It Out) (Tantrum, 1985)

Trespassing Bean Rays (Canada, 1982)

Obscure Canadian indie release from Ottawa. No punk to be found here but I think the first song from each side isn't too bad. The second song of Side 1 is included for completeness but I would advise against it.

Trespassing Bean Rays - s/t EP (Cleanorama Stakes / Heart Of The Mind // Heer Comes The Future / Eclipse) (Altair Four, 1982)

Wavis O'Shave LP (UK, 1979)

It would seem that Wavis was quite infatuated with a certain News At Ten newscaster. Her engagement announcement on 25/6/79 apparently sent the poor chap over the edge. You can listen to the result of that tragic event on this LP. Special thanx to Fatty Round's mother for the use of her kitchen (although she knew nothing of the event) and the neighbours for not calling the constabulary. If this or his 7" EP (Denis Smokes Tabs (John Is A Fig Roll)) are of any interest you should be able to find them pretty cheaply.

Wavis O'Shave - Anna Ford's Bum LP (Anti-Pop AP2, 1979)
(I'm In Love With Her Shoe / Shoes / Sid Is Dead / She's A Prune // Bit Spray Sir? / Anna Ford's Bum / Nebbism, The Essence / Jeremy's A Pansy / 25/6/79 (Come Back Anna))

Dygnet Runt (Sweden, 1982)

Energetic pop/new wave unknown from Sweden.

Dygnet Runt - Det é så svårt att låta bli / På systemet 7" (R & P Records RPS-4, 1982)

Chemicals (Canada, 1985)

Poppy sort of punky obscurity, likely from Montreal.

Bud Luxford Presents ... (Canada, 1980 - 81)

From Bloodied But Unbowed aka ThePunkMovie.com:
"Bud Luxford bands: From 1980-81, promoter, manager and raconteur Bud Luxford began organizing revue-style showcase concerts that exclusively featured fuck bands. Eventually, the mere presence of such concerts spurred the creation of dozens more ad-hoc combos. These concerts and their audiences became a scene-within-a-scene. The light-hearted, fun-first ethic and musical variety provided a welcome change-of-pace from hardcore-style punk shows. The flagship bands of the Bud Luxford stable were Rude Norton, Buddy Selfish, and Los Radicos Popularos (later shortened to Los Popularos). Los Pops were the super-group of fuck bands, featuring Bill Shirt, Art Bergmann, John Armstrong, Zippy Pinhead and Tony Bardach. In January 1981, Luxford released the compilation LP, Bud Luxford Presents; followed a few months later by Volume 2, On Sale Inside. Raising the funds for the albums provided another excuse to stage more concerts. Other bands in the Luxford stable included the Raisinettes (featuring members of the Dishrags), Melody Pimps, Jimbo & the Lizard Kings, Sasquatch, and Mrs Luxford’s Fish. On 25 July 1981, this scene reached its apotheosis with Budstock, a 10-band showcase at the Commodore."

Moonstruck (UK, 1980)

OK, so here's the hype from the time this sold on eBay for £560: "This is A RARE AND UNKNOWN UNTIL NOW UK PRIVATE PRESSING PUNK / POWER POP single by the band MOONSTRUCK from 1980 ...
This is a great PUNK / POWER POP single that is not known at all until now, and all 3 tracks are GREAT PUNK / POWER POP stormers with choppy guitars PUNK vocals and with minor touches of XTC thrown in for good measure, A GREAT FIND AND PROBABLY ONE OF THE LAST UNKNOWN PUNK GEMS FROM THE ERA !!!"

100 copies made, for promotional purposes as indicated by the sticker on the label. No song titles or any other info, just 2 stickers on the label on one side.

How much of that £560 was for the rarity and associated hype? I kinda /sorta like it, especially the 2 songs on the 'B' (non-stickered) side but I'm not sure I'd call them "stormers".

Behjan Mirhadi (1969 - 2010)

Before continuing with this post, please visit this earlier post for Behjan.

Many collectors of Killed By Death records had at some time likely had some contact with Behjan. He was one of the more knowledgeable and dedicated collectors I had ever met. I think our first contact was sometime in the mid-1990's. In the following years we traded a number of cassette tapes. Many of the records on those tapes later became more known in the rush of Killed By Death, Bloodstains and similar compilations that appeared in the late 1990's.

I didn't have much contact with Behjan over the past several years. We had exchanged several emails last year after he found me on Facebook. Like many, I was shocked to learn via the Yahoo kbd group of his passing on December 8. Here is a sample of the comments in response to the initial posting:

"Behjan was definitely one of the more interesting and enthusiastic folks I interacted with in my early days of collecting"

"very sad to hear this. behjan was a champion detective and a close ally in the 90's kbd discovery era."

"Behjan, such an enthusiastic punkrock fan, and very good at sharing music... I'm sad... Thinking of the great comp tapes he had sent and the cool bands he had turned me on... Can't believe he's gone !
RIP Behjan... wherever you are, your spirit will live on through all those who truly share music before anything else.
"

"His love and dedication for this music was truly amazing, and I guess his love for the oddest of odd is legendary... And he always stuck to it, even through the troubled times that he surely had...
RIP Behjan, and I hope you'll meet some of your KBD heroes wherever you are...
"

"I always knew he was a true obsessed fan and championed from his heart. He loved obscure, horrible, black humored, the underdogs and dregs if there could be such a thing in Punk Rock Music."

"We should put together a compilation of all the stuff he obsessed over finding. I remember in recent times The Nothing and Monroe. If anyone want to put together a list it would be a good tribute and well in the spirit of how he interacted with his friends."

The comment from the last quote above is what lead to what you are reading now. The kbd group came up with a list of some of Behjan's favorites over the years. There was a list he made back in 2000:

I've added the song "Hold Me" by The Victims. The other song from that acetate only recording was included on the No One Left To Blame compilation. In one his last emails to me he had mentioned how much he wanted to hear it. Sadly I never got around to sending it to him at the time.

Some of these tracks (The Nothing, Active Ingredients, Hammer Damage, The Now and Mark Truthe & The Liars) you will find over at the Punk Business Manager post for Behjan, which I trust you have already checked out.

The rest have been gathered together here as Behjan's Punk Hits. Enjoy, and whatever you drink, have one for one of the biggest fans of obscure punk rock that there ever was!

Update April 3 - I had planned to include some of Behjan's favorite Swedish bands but missed them ... so ABKK, Jonström and Morgan were added. I want more ... !!

Moog & Morkoonit (Finland, 1980)

I was going to wait until Christmas to post this one, but since that is still almost 280 shopping days away I decided to do it now. From Tampere, this is their only release. Vocalist Moog Konttinen was also in rock bands Kontra and Kylmä Rinki. These songs are also available on the CD issue of the Kontra "Mieto Levy" LP.

Reasons (Canada, 1982)

Sometimes it feels like I've dug through almost every record store Canada in the past 20 years and yet I still keep finding out about things I hadn't heard of before. Until someone left a comment on a previous "Obscure Canada" post I hadn't heard of The Reasons. Recorded in 1982 at Elora Sound, near Guelph, Ontario there were 5000 copies pressed. Where they all ended up is beyond me but now there are 4, 999 out there somewhere. Of the 4 songs on the EP 3 are excellent (power)pop/rock. The other song is a longer, slower ballad that didn't interest me as much but 3 out of 4 ain't bad. A slightly different version of the line-up that recorded this EP also released a cassette single in 1989 under the name CB4U. The name then changed back to The Reasons in the 90's. Peter Rea is still playing - check out the current version of The Reasons.
